Before taking excercises, we will have warm-up first. So is it the same to laser machines?
Nowadays, laser machines are becoming more and more popular in industrial engraving, welding, cutting and cladding applications. However, it still needs our attention to have warm-up time for laser sources before mass production, just the same as we are [around 3-5 mins for fiber laser, 20-30 mins for UV and Green laser]. This is mainly decided by its optical features. Without preheat, laser output would be unsteady.
Laser resonant chamber (cavity) is very sensitive to temperature, as well as the coordination between the pump light source and the resonant cavity also varies with temperature.
Especially for lasers with single longitudinal mode CW output. The power curve of startup preheating fluctuates significantly, which is a mode hopping process. Generally speaking, lasers without temperature control require half an hour of startup and preheating before they can have stable wavelengths and power when used.
